Why do I have to look at the ceiling to sing high notes?

So, I sing a lot, for recreational, and professional purposes. But I
find that whenever I sing a high note in a song, I always have to tilt
my head and look upwards just to pull the note off. Why is this? And
can I change it? Thanks!
