Constantin Film eyes global prize
'Resident Evil: Afterlife' rejuvenated the franchise last year and drew big bucks at the box office. Another in the series is on the slate.'Vicky and the Treasure of the Gods'Having raised the bar considerably with "Resident Evil: Afterlife" and "The Three Musketeers," Constantin Film has set its sights on global success without losing sight of its domestic market. It was the vision of its late founder and former chief exec Bernd Eichinger, who passed away earlier this year, that guided the company's growth for more than 30 years, making it Germany's leading production group. That vision and enthusiasm for spectacle and story, drama and adventure, continues to define the group. The company's upcoming production slate includes "The Poison Kitchen," a fact-based historical thriller by Robert Schwentke ("R.I.P.D.") that traces the rise of Nazism through the eyes of crusading journalists; Scott Charles Stewart's fantasy adventure "The Mortal Instruments"; and a CGI-animated version of "Tarzan."On the international front, Constantin boasts a winning team in Martin Moszkowicz, Constantin's head of film and television and increasingly the face of the company; producer Robert Kulzer, head of Constantin's L.A. office; star director Paul W.S. Anderson and producer Jeremy Bolt. Together they not only revived the "Resident Evil" franchise with last year's "Resident Evil: Afterlife," they also produced Constantin's biggest moneymaker to date. The four teamed on "The Three Musketeers," which is on track to be another stellar hit for the company, and are working on a fifth "Resident Evil" installment with Anderson again directing. After that, they will tackle their biggest project yet, "Pompeii," an original story set in the ancient Roman city during the catastrophic Vesuvius eruption.Constantin has owned a majority stake in Anderson and Bolt's L.A.-based Impact Pictures for more than a decade, and Moszkowicz is glad to have the director back in the fold."I am very proud that we were successful in bringing Paul back into the directing chair for 'Resident Evil 4' -- which has now become the most successful film in Constantin's history -- and subsequently 'The Three Musketeers' -- the first film that he has directed that has come out of the Impact development slate. When we entered into the joint venture with Paul and Jeremy we always envisioned that Impact would produce movies that Paul directs, so this has been a plan in the working and is now a reality." While many of Constantin's earlier English-language films tended to be more Eurocentric, Moszkowicz says the company is "now targeting a more international audience. We want to enhance our profile even more when it comes to the U.S. domestic market as well as the huge emerging markets worldwide."Constantin is fast-tracking "The Poison Kitchen," which follows the Munich Post newspaper and its campaign of more than a decade against Hitler until it was finally shut down by the Nazis following their rise to power. Matthew Sand ("Ninja Assassin") is penning the English-language pic, which is set to shoot next year with Kulzer and Margo Klewans producing. Also going into production later this year or early 2012 is "The Mortal Instruments," toplining Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower, which Kulzer is producing with Unique Features partners Robert Shaye and Michael Lynne; Moszkowicz and Unique's Dylan Sellers are exec producing.Constantin likewise remains on board with Fox's upcoming reboot of "The Fantastic Four."While the company has set its sights on the global market, it has not let go of its German roots. One of Constantin's big upcoming projects is an English-language adaptation of Karl May's "Winnetou," a German-language classic of the American West that spawned several novels.Hugely popular in Germany, the books inspired a series of films in the 1960s that starred Frenchman Pierre Brice as the Apache hero Winnetou and American Lex Barker as his faithful pale-faced companion, Old Shatterhand.Constantin has tapped "Dances With Wolves" scribe Michael Blake to pen the new film, which is to go into production next year, possibly in New Mexico with Kulzer producing and Moszkowicz exec producing.Constantin has always exhibited a predilection for pulp. In keeping with that tradition, Reinhard Klooss, head of Constantin's animation division, is currently producing and directing "Tarzan," a CGI-animated 3D version of the Edgar Rice Burroughs classic based on a script by Klooss and Jessica Postigo, who also worked on "The Mortal Instruments."In what execs describe as a coup, Constantin managed to jump on the animation rights, which had been held by Disney, when a short window opened. (Warner Bros. holds the live-action film rights). Constantin's version will be a contemporary story focusing on a teenage Tarzan and promising "a more testosterone-driven approach to the franchise" than what has been seen in animated versions. While it's not yet clear if the film will be PG, Moszkowicz says it will definitely be aimed at a "slightly older audience" and "retain the spirit of Burroughs' novel while taking it into modern times." "Tarzan" follows Klooss and Holger Tappe's 2010 hit toon pic "Animals United," which has become such an international success that Constantin is considering a sequel. In addition, the company is developing the tyke property "Die olchis," based on the hugely popular children's books by Erhard Dietl.Constantin is certain to light up the September box office with "The Three Musketeers" and Christian Ditter's tyke Viking actioner "Vicky and the Treasure of the Gods," a follow-up to its 2009 hit "Vicky the Viking."It's not just action, adventure and animation, however. Constantin remains just as committed as ever to the domestic market and German film. It has a slew of adult-skewed dramas in the works, including "Schweigeminute" (Stella), an adaptation of Siefried Lenz's bestseller (published in the U.S. as "Stella") written and directed by Andreas Dresen, who won this year's Cannes Un Certain Regard sidebar with "Stopped on Track." Produced by Constantin's Oliver Berben, pic revolves around a love affair between an 18-year-old and his English teacher during a summer on Germany's Baltic coast in the 1960s.Berben is also producing Doris Doerrie's "Glueck" (Bliss), based on a short story by author and Berlin defense attorney Ferdinand von Schirach about a young prostitute whose life gets complicated when a customer dies in her flat; Celluloid Dreams is handling world sales for the pic.Sherry Hormann ("Desert Flower"), meanwhile, is set to direct "Kampusch," the harrowing true story of a young Austrian kidnap victim, which Moszkowicz is producing. Hormann inherited the project from Eichinger, who was working on the script when he died of a heart attack in January. Production is set to begin next year. Contact Ed Meza at ed.meza@mannaa.de

Glam Slam: Kongrats Kim & Kris!
By Ryan PattersonLOS ANGELES, Calif. -- It was over-the-top glam, but just so elegant, Kim Kardashian says of her wedding in the new issue People magazine, which features her on the cover! Today we get our first real look at photos of Kim Kardashians wedding to Kris Humphries in People. Ive seen the 11-page spread and every detail of the fairy tale wedding is stunning and Kim looks absolutely gorgeous. No shocker there! We (finally!) really get to see all three of the custom Vera Wang gowns she wore at the wedding, which as you know, took place in posh Montecito, California this past weekend. The first gown was an ivory ball gown with full tulle skirt and hand pieced Chantilly lace applique on the bodice and train, which she paired with a 65 carat diamond headpiece by Lorraine Schwartz worth a whopping 2.5 million. All in all Kim wore nearly $15 million in diamonds, according to Schwartz. For the couples first dance, Kim changed into her second gown, which was an ivory georgette mermaid gown with hand pieced Chantilly lace applique on the bodice. The skirt had hand cut organza petals intermixed with Chantilly lace motifs. Kim tells the magazine that I was going for an Old Hollywood look of the nights third gown- an ivory bias-cut crepe back satin gown with V-neck and circle skirt. The bridesmaids also wore custom Vera Wang gowns, which were ivory strapless silk organza mermaid gowns. Most people wouldnt have the luxury of having three Vera Wang dresses to choose frombut that definitely seems to be very Kim. I love the dress she got married in. It looks elegant and classic. Im not a fan of the diamonds on her head though. Its very glamorous and very Hollywood, but Im just not feeling it. Other than that, well done Kim, well done! This was our moment, Kris told People. It was beautiful and it was perfect. Congrats to the couple! To check out the wedding spread, the new issue of People is on newsstands Friday. Copyright 2011 by NBC Universal, Inc. Marilyn Mansfield Shows Off Her 500 Dolls on My Collection Obsession
Marilyn Mansfield "I'm not crazy at all, really! I just like dolls!" Marilyn Mansfield tells TVGuide.com. Her interest in dolls comprises one of four stories on TLC's special My Collection Obsession (Sunday, 10/9c). And while she may not be certifiable, she's certainly crazy for dolls. The show reports that the part-time model and actress has over 500 dolls (she says this number includes action figures and other approximations) she's collected over the past 10 years. Mansfield, who got her stage name by combining those of Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield, has a particular love of "reborn" dolls - those which closely resemble real babies and cost hundreds of dollars (Mansfield tells us that her most expensive doll cost $1,200). In typical TLC quirk-adoring fashion, the highlight of Mansfield's segment occurs when she carts a doll that's the size of a 5-year-old child into a shoe store to have it fitted, much to the astonishment of the store's employees. We talked to Mansfield, 33, by phone and she explained to us that she's not actually obsessed or a hoarder, and that she has a good sense of humor about this whole thing, thank you very much. What's on your Watchlist? Create one and keep tabs on all of TLC's programming You signed on to appear on a show called My Collection Obsession. Does that mean you agree that you're obsessed with dolls?Marilyn Mansfield: I don't think so. To me, an obsession is something that interferes with your daily life and the dolls do not interfere with my daily life and what I need to do. I do other things and I think about other things. They are just a big part of my life. I see it more as a hobby that I'm extremely passionate about. Your participation on this show, though, does imply that you're living a life outside of the norm.Mansfield: Oh yeah, I don't think it's an average thing, but then again, I'm not your average person. I'm kind of unique in my own way. It's just something that makes me happy, and I don' t expect everyone to understand it. I feel like, "To each their own," and I hope people feel that way for me as well. Are you ready for the Internet criticism that comes from appearing on unscripted TV?Mansfield: Yeah, that kind of already started with the Post article. People were saying "crazy doll lady" and whatever. Anything that is out of the norm, people tend to judge, and people also judge things they don't understand. I'm not worried about it. I have a thick skin and I considered it going into the show. But most of the reactions are positive, and the positives of everything in my life outweigh the negative. There's nothing strange about an addiction to TLC's My Strange Addiction Do you have a day job?Mansfield: No. I'm just with an agency and I submit for modeling and acting stuff, which is kind of sparse because obviously I don't look like your average model or actor. I've done a lot of work with independent companies, although I did model for Elizabeth and James a few years ago. Does the money you get from those gigs go to dolls?Mansfield: No, because I do a lot of trading. My husband has given me dolls as gifts and I put them on layaway sometimes. Stuff like that. My husband helps me out. If I get money, it's gone to dolls, sure, but the first priority is the real kids though. How much did your interest in the spotlight motivate you to appear on this show?Mansfield: It wasn't really about being in the spotlight at all. It was really just about: I have a really awesome doll collection and I thought it was a good forum to show it off. It was about the dolls. Your husband says on the show that he thinks you "genuinely love" your dolls. Is that true?Mansfield: Yeah. I generally love them like a man would love his Rolls Royce. Anything you're super-passionate about and take pride in, you're going to love. Sure, I love them. I wouldn't have them if I didn't. Is it a different kind of love from the one that you have for people?Mansfield: Yeah. Obviously, people that I care for come first. It's a different kind of admiration, I would say. But they're weighted like babies and they're very lifelike. I always had a very strong maternal instinct, so it's hard when you hold a doll that appears to be a sleeping baby not to kind of fall in love with them. I've always loved children. When my kids were babies, I loved taking care of them and this is like that part forever. From an armchair psychologist perspective, I'd look at you doting over dolls and think, "Oh, something tragic must have happened to her," or, "She can't have kids and is filling that void." But no, you have kids and void-filling doesn't seem to be going on in that respect.Mansfield: Oh, no. My kids are the best thing in my life. I just love kids and babies. It's not filling a void, although I would recommend a reborn doll to someone who couldn't have kids. I think maybe it would be beneficial. Catch up on today's news This hobby being as unusual as it is, do you ever take a step back and laugh at how into dolls you are as a grown woman?Mansfield: Yeah! I joke about it constantly. I don't care. Sometimes, I'm like, "Whoa!" When we filmed the show, I said, "I didn't realize I had this many!" Is there anything to be said for using dolls as a way of tapping your inner child?Mansfield: There's a part of me that will always be a big kid. One of my big influences is Pee-Wee Herman. I have a blast with my kids. I'll play games with them and stuff. I have a fun side of me that's a big kid in a way. This season, both Hoarders and Hoarding: Buried Alive featured women who were doll enthusiasts. What separates you from a hoarder?Mansfield: I do not consider myself a hoarder at all. Each one of my dolls has its own place. I'm not stepping over mountains and mountains and mountains of dolls and they're not dolls out of the garbage. There's clear room. My apartment is extremely clean, whereas a hoarder is tripping over everything if you can even make your way through. It's not collecting when you have garbage. I did see that one woman, the doll surgeon. I thought she was cute. Phyllis hoards dolls, performs surgery on them in Hoarders season premiere On the show, you say your doll collection is something that adds to your life. Can you sum it up exactly what it adds?Mansfield: It brings personal joy to my life. There's not anything negative that I can say about it. If I don't have money for a doll, I don't have money for a doll and that's it. It's just something that makes me very happy that I do by myself. My family is very supportive. I'm very lucky. If I'm out all day and I come home and watch TV while holding one of the baby dolls, that's very rewarding. Watch Marilyn visit the shoe store with her doll in the clip below:

Two New Faces Join Game Of Thrones Season 2
By Jolie LashLOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Theon Greyjoy is getting a sister in Game of Thrones Season 2. The part of Asha Greyjoy will be played by Gemma Whelan, who appeared in 2010s Benicio Del Toro film The Wolfman, Access Hollywood has confirmed. As producers first confirmed to Access Hollywood at Comic-Con, Asha is being renamed. Asha will now be called Yara Greyjoy. Producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss told Access at Comic-Con that they were working on the name change because Season 1 already had a character named Osha the wildling woman who survived after attacking Bran Stark in the woods, and was later taken in as a chained servant at Winterfell. Were a little bit worried about the Osha/Asha sounding too close together, David previously told Access Asha now Yara is the sister to Theon, the former ward of Eddard Ned Stark, played by Alfie Allen (brother in real life to pop singer Lily Allen). When fans last saw him in Season 1, he was at the side of Robb Stark (Richard Madden), and helped defeat a band of Lannisters (including Nikolaj Coster-Waldaus Jamie) in the battlefield. And on the other side of the Westeros world, a new member of Daenerys Targaryens (Emilia Clarke) camp has been cast. As first reported by Westeros.Org, British actor Nonso Anozie will play Xaro Xhoan Daxos, a wealthy merchant who takes in Daenerys, the members of her khalasar (the Dothraki that stuck with her after the death of husband Khal Drogo), and her knight, Ser Jorah Mormont (Iain Glenn), and becomes an adviser of sorts. Coincidentally, Nonso actually stars as Artus in Conan The Barbarian, alongside Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo). That film opens in theaters on August 19. The new castings join previously confirmed new faces Liam Cunningham as Davos, Stephen Dillane as Robert Baratheons heir and brother Stannis, Dutch actress Carice van Houten as the red priestess Melisandre, Gwendoline Christie as Brienne, knight to Renly Baratheon, and Tudors actress Natalie Dormer as Margaery Tyrell, Renlys wife.
